Little bag of bones been out all night [Mar. 27th, 2014|10:58 pm]

Tonight I was at the grocery store getting some ice cream. As I passed the first freezer case full of popsicles, I noticed they had Hello Kitty themed popsicles.

Eager to show off my reading-out-loud skills, I blurted out "Hello Kitty" as I passed by. As I said this, I passed by a 10 year old girl and her mother. I made my way to the ice cream pint section where adults shop for Häagen-Dazses, Talenti (already plural?), and Ben and Jerry'ses. After I had completely passed them, the little girl asked her mother, "Did he just call me Kitty?"

i have decided that if prince can legally change his name to a symbol, i can change my name to have line breaks, spaces, and punctuation. therefore, from now on, i'd like to be known by the following nameCollapse ) i'm pretty sure this will make me the biggest badass of all time. and i have bob vanderclay to thank.

IIIIIIII LLOOOVE YOU JESUS CHRIIIIIIIIIST! [Dec. 14th, 2004|08:31 am]

[Current Music |neutral milk hotel - king of carrot flowers pts. 2-3]

yes! my finals are set to begin rather shortly, and will be over in 11 hours or so, but this doesn't worry me, cause i have something to be excited about. my younger brother (genetic), chip off the old block, received his acceptance letter to the NYU music technology program last night. there is not a day that goes by that i don't slightly regret my decision to pass up going to the music business program there. at the time, berkeley computer science seemed like such a good idea... mistakes were made, but my brother comes out ahead for it, so i am glad. at least i got to spend a few more years in the bay area, which is, to quote the late ronald wilson reagan, a city on a hill.
now, if i go for the music business master at nyu, i can even become roommates with my brother, leading to many great misadventures and comedies of errors. ha ha ha.

"bill, you and i have witnessed many things, but nothing as bodacious as what just happened."
the arcade fire just played one of the greatest shows i've ever witnessed. and they played "cars go by" and "headlights look like diamonds" back to back. i may have thought that their debut was a step down in quality, but just as buttercup learns to "never doubt again" the power of her love for weseley in the princess bride, i will never again doubt the greatness of this band. better than the oc. especially this seasons oc. better than the chrismukah episode.

[Current Music |windy & carl - consciousness]

in space, up and down cease to exist, becoming just as arbitrary as left and right. it has occured to me that in addition to to keeping us grounded, gravity also serves to give us this orientation. my problem stems from the observation that in television and film, space crafts are inevitably all oriented with the same understanding of up and down, even in the deepest, most remote parts of space, where no landmarks exist to use for calibration. this greatly disturbed me until i realized that just like we have standards of measurements, so can standards of orientation be developed to make space travel less discombobulative. nonetheless, i feel that it is unlikely that aliens from the gamma quadrant would coincidentally develop the same standards. perhaps i have been listening to too much drone music without the clarifying power of drugs.

white cheddar cheez-it crackers are covered in a powder in order to enhance flavor, while original cheez-its are not, even though the only purported flavor difference is that one cheddar is white. i find myself wondering what the implications of this are.

this is easily the longest film i've ever watched in the german language, but not the first one with stop animation barbie dolls and penises. nonetheless, most likely it is the greatest. my friend shelley sent this to me, so those of you that know him, know this is gold.

off on a natural charge, bon voyage [Nov. 14th, 2004|03:54 am]

[Current Music |odb]

i have learned much this evening. first, never go scuba diving underwater if you are a naked woman, not only because of the dangers that sharks pose, but also of aquatic zombies. while they can serve to distract the sharks by trying to eat their flesh, they tend to take one by surprise by hiding amongst sea plants.
second, after seeing portions of apocalypse now and the west wing, i realize why martin sheen deserves the electorate's trust and is able to serve as a good president: his military experience fighting in viet nam. also, there is apparently a movie entitled apocalypse pooh, which is winnie the pooh cartoons overlaid with dialogue from apocalypse now. it leaves something to be desired, but at the end, piglet as dennis hopper's character is spot on. in the same vein, there is also apparently blue peanuts, which is charles shulz's peanuts characters speaking dialogue from blue velvet
my final, and perhaps most important lesson of the night came from wallace shawn, who said, "you fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land ware in asia,' but only slightly less well known is this: 'never go in against a sicilian when death is on the line.'"

odb, dirt dogg, big baby jesus, unique ason, russel tyrone jones, osirus, joe bananas, etc... rip. i christened our bush outside with the last of my forty in honor of you.

like a sound you hear that lingers in your ear, but you can't forget from sundown to sunset [Nov. 12th, 2004|04:09 pm]

[Current Music |marlena shaw - california soul]

"There is no Hitler building as such. We are quartered in Centenary Hall, a dark brick structure we share with the popular culture department, known officially as American environments. A curious group. The teaching staff is. . . here to decipher the natural language of the culture, to make a formal method of the shiny pleasures they'd known in their Europe-shadowed childhoods--an Aristotelianism of bubble gum wrappers and detergent jingles."
don delillo - white noise

don delillo's portrayal of the american studies department is frighteningly accurate, and would be just like the cal department if you replaced the new york males with a group of californians, genders evenly split, if not primarily female.

how am i supposed to listen to the one hundred odd albums i've accumulated in the last 25 days when i'm continually drawn back to music i already know i enjoy? am i supposed to ignore it? call the love affair to an end? sorry kid, you were great, but i've got to move on to things i don't even know if i'll like, let alone love like i've loved you. songs have feelings too. the most insulting part of this, to the songs, must be that much of the newly acquired music was sought because it was described as having similarities to my favorite past loves. any review that sites my bloody valentine, neutral milk hotel, bjork, curtis mayfield, or tom waits will undoubtedly garner my attention, but almost invariably disappoint. why do i put us through this? and then, unless it is irredeemably bad music, i lack the heart to delete or sell it. yet i did have the heart to abandon and neglect other music. part of this is due to the postmodern desire to continually acquire and collect, and part of it is a hope that i will in the future internalize the entire contents of my music collection and be forever with it in my mind. ah, man is a cold and fickle creation.
life is a difficult and hard struggle. in the immortal words of freddie foxxx, who can always be counted on to bring voice to my inner turmoil, hard "like tryin' to find an ass on a chinese woman."

[Current Music |love and rockets - an american dream]

so, there has been some discussion about bright eyes having the top two singles on the charts. that's certainly surprising, but until that turns into massive exposure, making me listen to connor oberst, that's fine. but i'd like to point out that almost the entire saddle creek roster are at best mediocre or boring. but, despite the relative mainstream popularity of this disappointing label, there is a light, and it is the oc.
